The Association for International Sport for All (TAFISA), rallied people and organisations from across the world to ‘pass the baton’ across all time zones, to celebrate the power of sport and physical activity in unifying the world during the COVID-19 crisis. This event connected people by creating a wave of activity across the world from east to west and covering all 24 time zones on the day.
Bluearth invited Australians to join in ‘passing the baton’ to celebrate the power of physical activity and moving well in unifying the world as a symbolic recovery out of the COVID-19 crisis. Bluearth used the occasion to raise funds to provide the Active Schools program in Inner Melbourne schools.
The strict lockdowns in the Inner Melbourne schools’ area have highlighted that children from this precinct are confined to small residences, where outdoor access to space for physical activity has been limited. Social isolation, lack of peer support and absence of physical activity associated with school closures and residential lockdowns have also led to adverse effects on children’s physical, mental and social health.
All funds raised through this project will be used to provide a Bluearth program at Sacred Heart Primary School, Fitzroy.
Bluearth is grateful for the generous support from Nelson Alexander Foundation and Coles Fitzroy. Thanks to all our other donors for your kind support.
A huge thank you to Tiffiny Hall, Ed Kavalee and Swisse, and a big shout out to @Jeminamontag, and @_sarahblackmore for your help with promotions on social media.
The final fundraising outcome will be announced in our next newsletter.
