Swisse Ride to Work Scheme

The Australian Bureau of Statistics reports that almost 7 million people drive to work each day. Comparatively, only 450,000 people are estimated to either cycle or walk to their workplace.

Swisse has put a Ride to Work scheme in place to tackle this divide. Supporting employees to ride to work will not only help to reduce our carbon footprint, but will result in better overall health.

The Ride to Work scheme will give all Swisse employees a loan to purchase cycling equipment to ride to and from work. Through this incentive, Swisse aims to foster a stronger culture for active transport.

What are the health benefits?

Cycling improves cardio-vascular and aerobic fitness. Plus – it is low impact, meaning your joints will love it. Even just a short ride has been proven to boost energy, improve co-ordination and aid in lowering blood pressure. Not to mention the fantastic endorphins that get released every time you ride.

What about your mental health?

Aerobic exercise like cycling can reduce your levels of the ‘stress hormone’ cortisol. We often hear the phrase ‘healthy body, healthy mind’, and it is true – the effects of exercise itself, along with the enjoyment that a ride brings, positively impact your mental health.

How can I join the active transport movement?

Start with small steps. Pick one day of the week to ride or walk to work. If you live far away, try driving half way and riding the rest. If you take public transport, hop off one step early and walk the last little bit of your journey. Making small incremental changes will make a big difference to your overall health!

Happy riding!
