SITTING FOR MORE THAN 11 HOURS A DAY

Sorry but alarm bells are ringing. Before you read anymore please stand up! Your risk of early death has increased by 40% and that is frightening. Don't get caught up in the myth that if you do a little bit of exercise each day that this will negate the effects of your sitting. Did you know that moving is actually better for your body and mind and makes you more productive? We have heaps of great ideas on how to incorporate more movement into your day.

8 - 11 HOURS A DAY

Oops – your risk factor of early death has increased by 15%. Sitting for protracted periods increases the risk of diabetes, heart disease and death. Good news is that it is easy to change. If you sit less by 3 – 4 hours a day – that is the equivalent of running ten marathons a year! Go to our tips sheet for great ideas on how to move more.

4 - 8 HOURS A DAY

Pretty Good!

Your risk of early death has only slightly increased. Remember that sitting has a higher rate of subjective fatigue than standing – try and break up your sitting time regularly and refresh your body and mind.

SITTING LESS THAN 4 HOURS A DAY

That is great! Remember it is not just about how much you sit each day but for how long. Remember to take regular breaks during long sitting periods.
