Ross Hill is Bluearth’s Regional Coordinator for North East Victoria and Southern NSW, who still retains a coaching presence in several schools in the region through Bluearth’s Active Schools Program.
We asked him about his role, background, and some fun facts, so you can get to know him a bit better.
See what he had to say below.
What is your role and what does it involve?
I am the Regional Coordinator for Bluearth in North East Victoria and Southern NSW. As well as this, I still retain a coaching presence in several schools in the region through Bluearth’s Active Schools Program.
Part of my role is to maintain the strong relationships with schools and sponsors in the region that have been built successfully over many years, and also search for new opportunities that can assist in spreading the Bluearth message.
Supporting and developing our awesome coaching group is also a key component of my position.
What do you love about your role and working for Bluearth?
First and foremost I love the opportunity that I get to be able to share the Bluearth approach with as many students and teachers that I can. We are in a privileged position in terms of being the agents of change in society to the crisis that is being faced with inactivity, and that is not lost on me.
At Bluearth we have a great team that are all on the same page and work super hard to create an environment where everyone can bring their best – which is a message we like to deliver to students!
Can you tell us a bit about your background/training and how you started your journey at Bluearth?
I was fortunate to have had a lengthy football playing career locally with Wangaratta Rovers and interstate with St. Mary’s in Darwin. When I hung the boots up I felt the urge to dip my toe into coaching with the Murray Bushrangers and I really enjoyed sharing my experiences with others to help them on their journey.
Having two young daughters also provides a solid grounding in communication and relationships as they navigate their way through life.
Although I never had the chance to do Bluearth when I was at primary school, I was lucky enough to have been exposed to the Bluearth approach in other varied settings. When the opportunity came about with a position opening up as a Bluearth Coach, I was thrilled to be taking on that role.
FUN FACTS
Favourite Colour
I don’t have a favourite colour, rather colours…the Red, White and Blue of the Mighty Western Bulldogs!
Favourite Song
So many to choose from – I love my tunes! If I was to plump for one it would be Pink Floyd’s “I Wish You Were Here”. Classic track!
Favourite place to go for a walk
I enjoy going for a walk with my family and as a matter of fact that was one of our morning rituals during the Covid lockdown period last year. However, my vice and one thing that I enjoy more than anything about being outside is when I’m riding my bike. Whether it’s a solo ride or with the same bunch that I usually go out with, there is not a better feeling than the joy of riding a bike. It provides some physical exertion and the benefits that come from that but also the positives for your mental wellbeing are exponential.
