MOVING IN THE ENVIRONMENT
Moving in the environment provides opportunities to further explore movement utilising the built and natural environment. By approaching obstacles as 'opportunities' rather than barriers we explore and build the undeniable relationship between ourselves and our world.
Walk, run, jump, crawl, climb, swing, hang, balance and roll; over, around, up, along, under and through the environment, challenging yourself to find opportunities for a variety of movement.
Fluidity and efficiency is what we seek, harmonising with our surrounds to create an enhanced feeling for our world and our place in it. Beginning slowly and mindfully we gradually increase our efficiency and speed - rapid movement creates the need for spontaneous decision making and heightened awareness, transcending the obvious in pursuit of a rhythmical and dynamic expression of the possibilities.
Given the freedom to explore the possibilities for movement are endless. With this in mind we must be confident that the group is ready to accept the responsibility that comes with this freedom, including guiding and leading others. This practise should be seen as something to aspire to and a high end experience. Much practice and repetition of the basics (see 1-6 in this section) should precede any invitation to fully explore, and this should only happen when the Coach / Teacher is confident the time and place is right.
Always work within the rules of the school when exploring Moving in the Environment.
