JURASSIC PARK

The object of the game is for the various dinosaurs to tag all the tourists that come in to Jurassic Park.

Students begin anywhere within defined area.

Choose 1 or 2 "Tennisball-o-sauruses" who tag students by touching them with a tennis ball.

Choose 2 or 3 "Gator-sauruses" who tag students by throwing a gator skin ball (or other soft ball) and hitting them below the shoulders.

Choose 3 students to hold hands, becoming "Chain-a-saurus", the 3-headed dinosaur. A "chain-asaurus" must remain linked at all times and tags with the hands at either end.

Any 'tourists' who get tagged must squat on the spot and can only be freed and rejoin the game once tagged by a "Park Ranger". Choose 2 students to become the "Park Rangers" who wear a colour band to signify their role. "Park Rangers" cannot be tagged by the dinosaurs.

Change roles after a certain amount of time and play again.

EQUIPMENT: Gator Skin Balls, Colour Bands, Tennis Balls.

AREA REQUIRED: Basketball Court sized area.

HOW TO EXPLAIN THE ACTIVITY
HOW TO EXPLAIN THE ACTIVITY

Those familiar with the movie may set up the game using a similar story where the dinosaurs may begin the game in the middle of the area in an imaginative cage. The Dinosaurs may then either break out or be let out of the cage by the Park Rangers, and then they may chase the "tourists".

Introduce each dinosaur and their capabilities to the group eg Gator-saurus can throw, Chain-a-saurus must stay linked.

This game may run for some time, include it early in a session.

CUES FOR DEBRIEF / REFLECTION
CUES FOR DEBRIEF / REFLECTION

Which of the dinosaurs was easiest to escape/which was the hardest? Why?

Were there any strategies that the Dinosaurs or the Tourists could use to cooperate with each other?

What are the qualities needed to be a great Park Ranger/ Tennisball-o-saurus /Gator-saurus /Chain-osaurus?

HOW TO VARY THE ACTIVITY
HOW TO VARY THE ACTIVITY

Add in ways of avoiding the Dinosaurs eg. Tennisball-a-saurus cant tag you if you stand still, dance to avoid Gator-saurus, or other similar ideas.

Make up your own Dinosaurs using other types of equipment eg. Bean Bags (Beanbag-a-saurus), Squidgy Discs (Squidgy-o-Raptor), ask the students for ideas you are only limited by your imagination.
