Welcome to edition #9 of e-News.
Second term is underway for most of us and the year is in full swing.
Towards the end of first term Bluearth was involved in an exciting event in conjunction with Manly Warringah Cricket Club hosting the inaugural 20/20 celebrity cricket match.
A crowd of over 3000 watched past players and sporting stars from various fields battle it out in what was, at times, fierce competition and light-hearted rivalry.
To view the article or pictures visit our website. And keep a look out for more information in relation to our community model in the Manly area over the coming months.
Please enjoy the latest offerings and if there is something you would like to contribute or would like to see in e-News we would love to here about it.
And, as always we are interested in your feedback, let us know how we are going: enews@bluearth.org.
Enjoy

Here’s a taste…
A Year Long Experiment. Bluearth Coach – Ric Thompson
As a coach it is interesting to consider what we believe to be the ‘not negotiables’ or most important aspects of coaching. Once we have considered this and established a framework of what we believe to be important then we can look at our current practise and see if there is a match. At the end of 2007 I was pondering these very questions and had several discussions with other coaches. As a result of these conversations I decided to embark on a project that would place the concepts I considered to be important at the absolute forefront of my delivery style...

"SIDDHARTHA". A review by Bluearth Coach - Tim Forsyth.
This powerful little novel came to me through absolute chance as a result of a most surprising act of giving. A most perfect example of the innate wisdom and understanding that we all share and that which this book so intricately and succinctly describes…and also a tale for another time. The power of "Siddhartha" is displayed in the story of its author, the German-born Hermen Hesse. The retelling of such a legendary scenario took a tremendous toll on the author himself, forcing him to take more than a year off writing in the early 1920’s to deal with his own severe depression brought about by his increasing need to understand the journey of Siddhartha, and the unpacking of his own conventional and conceptual beliefs. The story follows the life and unfolding path to true understanding and enlightenment of the title character Siddhartha. Born into the relative privilege of the Indian caste system in the time of Gautama Buddha, Siddhartha seemed to be gifted with all that could be desired, a good looking rooster he was the son of a Brahmin, keeper of the deep rituals, of the ancient knowledge, and a cultural source of wisdom….

There are many ways to get involved with Bluearth and what better time than now to get involved.
- Want to train more teachers? You might have trained a teacher/s and want to train more. By letting us know now, we can look at preferred times / days that suit your school.
- Are you interested in sustainability visits? If you have teachers that have completed the training program in recent years and are looking for additional guidance and support, coaches can visit schools to provide this.
- Does your school have special needs around workshops or staff training that you would like us to look at tailoring for you? We can come in and assist in a range of situations in regards to staff welfare and practical sessions around physical activity.

The Way of St. James or St. James' Way is the pilgrimage to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the apostle, Saint James, are buried.
Taking up the symbol of scallop shell and staff, pilgrims for over 1000 years have set off from all over Europe along The Camino De Santiago or 'Way of St. James', that eventually leads to the tomb of James, the apostle, in the Iberian Peninsula's far northwest.
Part pilgrimage, part adventure travel but overall total peak experience is this long distance walk that traditionally traverses the north of Spain from Roncesvalles, on the border with France to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia.
Traditionally, 783km, you can pick it up at any point and continue to eventual burial place of St. James. Many also continue on to the coast at Finisterre, which was thought to be the end of the world in medieval times.
The journey is marked along the way through the scallop shell signifying route markers and also pilgrim accommodation. Stamps are also issued on a 'passport' to show that you have travelled the route that can be turned in at the completion of the journey for a Compostela – a certificate of accomplishment.
