Complete Health is achieved through awareness. Awareness is fully recognising who we are now, while in the process of becoming who we want to be.
Health is not just a matter of the physical body. It is a holistic integration of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.
Each of these expressions has an energy body – none is separate; all are connected since everything is energy.
Ron Garner
Ron Garner is the author of 'Conscious Health' a book that demystifies many aspects relating to health and suggests practices that can contribute to a longer, healthier, more energetic life.

PARKOUR COMES TO THE WIDER WORLD
Raymond Belle was born in Vietnam but his father died in the first Indochina war and he was separated from his mother and taken in by the French Army. He received a military education and training both in Vietnam and later back in France up until 1958. Belle, although trained to kill, went on to serve in Paris's military firefighters who were called to the most difficult and dangerous rescue missions including a role in the first ever helicopter-borne operations giving him the reputation of inspiring the next generation.
This generation would include his son David Belle and his childhood friend, Sebastien Foucan (another Parkour pioneer). Influenced by his father's physical exploits, David pursued a childhood of martial arts, gymnastics and obstacle course training resulting in a move to a commune in Lisses where the real development began.
Belle and another friend defined their movements officially as Parkour.. They created the word Parkour from 'parcours du combatant', which was the classic obstacle course method of military training which Herbert developed. The took the word 'parcours', replaced the 'c' with a 'k' to suggest aggressiveness, and removed the silent 's' to support the parkour philosophy of efficiency. Those that practice Parkour became known as 'traceurs' derived from the French verb Tracer (to draw, to trace, but also 'to go fast').
Said Foucan, 'You just have to look, you just have to think, like children. This is the vision of Parkour'.
In 1997, Belle, Foucan and others developed a group called Yamakasi, a west African word meaning, strong spirit, strong body, strong man, endurance. Unfortunately after this amazing period Belle and Foucan parted ways over money and disagreements over definitions of 'lart du deplacement.
Parkour, however began to gain momentum as dedicated practitioners improved their skills and widened their repertoire of moves. Building to building jumps and drops of over one story began to surface in the media, leading to a slanted view of what Parkour actually is. At this time Parkour began to be widely practiced outside of France, moves were defined and a philosophy born.
In the next issue... Free running versus Parkour, Parkour hits popular culture, non-competitive Parkour, how to Parkour near you.
Note: The Dynamic Movement Control section of the manual contains many movements and activities that prepare individuals for Parkour.

Mystery surrounds the origins of this ancient game. Many have tried to discover its secrets and uncover the inventor(s) of 'Barry'. Ancient manuscripts suggest it may have been developed in an area now known as north eastern Victoria although many refute these claims. What we do know, however is that although incredibly simple, it's challenges are unending and those that are successful at Barry exhibit patience, teamwork, skill and persistence. Requiring little equipment and suitable for many ages and abilities it is well worth a run.
BARRY: HOW TO PLAY
Objective:
Team work, agility, ball handling, decision making.
Equipment:
2 Gator Skins, Colour Bands, Cones.
Formation:
Basketball court or oval. Set up goals at each end of the area.
Ideal Number of Students:
Whole class. Split the group into two teams.
Description:
Create goals (a square of cones) as far apart as the playing field will allow. Each team will receive a gator skin ball. Teams start at either end of the playing field and must carry, throw or pass their ball to the opposing team's goal without it touching the ground. Score by rolling ball into other teams square.
If the ball is dropped it must go back to the end line before beginning again. If a player is tagged in possession of the ball they must return to the end line to re enter the game. Continuous play, move as quickly as possible, catch the other team off guard, score go back to start and try and score again. No player is allowed in either square.
